Application Performance Monitoring

Application response time, round-trip network delay, server responsiveness, database transactions per second and number of turns, are all attempts to measure how well an IT infrastructure is performing and some of the key metrics that Nexvu is collecting and analyzing. Immediate benefits of such a platform can be realized by measuring and base-lining the current user experience. More importantly, IT departments now have a way to determine if a notable change in a currently monitored metric, such as network utilization, or a major IT upgrade, is having an impact where it counts most -- the end-user.

But these metrics usually fail to reflect the real effect of application performance on business objectives, such as return on investment due to application changes, network upgrades, database rollouts and server upgrades. Nexvu Analyzer provides intelligent performance management information that enables IT and business user organizations of all sizes to determine the business value of these IT investments in a real-world, real-time manner. Bottom line, it provides the Chief Information Officer (CIO) or the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) an opportunity to reduce capital and operating expenses without degrading the quality of services to its users.

Specifically, the key functions provided by Nexvu Analyzer include:

  • Monitoring - Tracking a metric against a specified threshold, and notifying when that threshold has failed. The CUSTOMER VALUE is the ability to avoid an outage by proactively monitoring services. This equates to reduced help desk calls, but will also have an internal value as a result of the system not being down. For example, in retail, there is "lost revenue" associated with a cash register being down. Each business will have some value associated with "down time". The goal is that by proactively monitoring, 10 to 20 percent of those outages can be avoided.
  • Planning - using historical data to plan for a future need. The CUSTOMER VALUE is cost take out and or avoidance as a result of better planning and utilization of the assets (bandwidth, servers, licenses, devices, etc.)
  • Analysis - detailed visibility into the network and application for troubleshooting and or engineering. The CUSTOMER VALUE is reduced time to recovery when an outage occurs and more accurate design as a result of having production based information. This visibility also leads to optimization of application and infrastructure design to enhance QoE and QoS!

Nexvu Analyzers are described by technical experts as tools that provide Network Performance Management that is application aware. What does that mean? Quite simply, real time visualization of traffic all the way up the protocol stack to the application layer. Not just header information but deep inspection into the packet with the maintenance of state. We are able to look into the connectivity of a network based application and see how it is performing and what else might be affecting its performance and hence QoE.

Nexvu Analyzers have a highly intuitive Graphical User Interface (GUI).The comprehensive and real-time monitoring and reporting modules have been designed with many different types of users in mind - from the network engineer to the CxO of the company.
